Medical Examiners

Familiarisation Course for Medical Examiner of Seafarers

Course Description

Noting the fact that a large number of Indian Seafarers are gainfully employed on foreign flag ships and this number is likely to increase further in light of the various facilitation processes initiated by the Directorate and since MLC 2006 has already come into force internationally , a need has been felt to increase the number of Medical Examiners in the panel of the approved list in a proactive and pragmatic manner.

To increase the number of Medical Examiners and to bring about uniformity in the conduct of medical examination of Seafarers by the approved Medical Examiners and to ensure that all approved Medical Examiners have domain awareness about merchant ships and about the living and working conditions of seafarers, the Directorate has introduced a Familiarisation Course for Medical Examiner of Seafarers.
